Fall

This was my attempt at combining my digital art and my literary art; I wrote this story (also titled "Fall") two months ago or so, and I liked the way the treeline photograph matched the story's setting, and on top of that I wanted to practice more with using text in my work (like I did with "Dust to Dust") and this happened after several days of fiddling around with it. I'm pretty happy with it.

Troubles

I don't think I've ever been so unsure of a piece in my entire life. I was told to try and make a piece that actually has something to do with how I feel, with emotions and stuff. So I did this thing. I'm wondering if anybody can guess what this actually means.

Crinkle

A new manipulation that I haven't submitted for critique yet; this is a companion piece to "Sleeping Beauty" and "Church Angel" featuring my 13-year-old sister instead of my previous model.

Church Angel

This piece, unlike "Sleeping Beauty" was deemed excellent by my entire class and teacher almost instantly. It's really baffling to me (although it could just be my inner critic) because I'm trying to see what made this one so exciting and all I end up with are the errors.

"Sleeping Beauty" - this was a process.

I rarely go back to make major edits to my work, so this piece was a really interesting experience to make. My first finished product was this;

The text is a poem I wrote back in 2011 which my teacher originally encouraged me to do but then changed his mind about. As much as I like it this way, I could see where it could be made better, so I removed the crinkled paper texture and poetry layers and was left with this;

This is the original background of the first picture, a posterized church window. My teacher and I agreed that the posterizing was a bit much, so I remade the background

This is very, very close to the final image. On my own I realized her soft, smokey textures were almost too conflicted with the sharpness of the background. I upped the contrast and sharpness of her layer and created the final result;

This is the finished image. The added shadows and sharpness really tie the face to the background and make it believable. This piece also made me decide on what sort of theme to do for my final project.

My escapades with Flash and Motion didn't come out very well, and neither project ended up being complete so they won't be posted here.

You Can Create Tomorrow

My latest piece. I'm not sure how I feel about it. As always, every piece of photography belongs to me. The banner was found on google images and I do not take credit for it. This was created for a contest run by the Art Institute for its yearly art calendar. I post this here now only because I know it doesn't really have a chance to get into the calendar. that being said, I'm still proud of it.
